Lest We Forget. . .

November 12, 2014

So what did you do on Tuesday?  It was a beautiful day and for most of us a holiday, and I would suspect that a lot of yard work got done.  But the reason we were given a day off was not to rake leaves as appealing as that may seem.
Tuesday of course was Remembrance Day and for many it was an opportunity to collect at a cenotaph and to give an hour of our day to demonstrate our thanks and remembrance to those whose sacrifice made Canada what Canada is.
And I know that we don’t have to gather together to remember and be thankful, that we can remember as we rake leaves, or go for a drive or sleep in, but do we? And is an hour a lot to ask?  The old men and women who were once young gave up so much more than one hour on one day for the freedom we take for granted.
For most of us being born a Canadian was simply an accident of birth.  But the country we were born into wasn’t an accident.  It is what it is today because of sacrifices made years ago.  To quote Churchill “Never was so much owed by so many to so few.”

Have a great week and remember: To see what is really possible, you will have to attempt the impossible.
